As a hardwood flooring store in Indianapolis, Kermans knows first-hand the concerns many homeowners have when considering hardwood flooring. Top of the list? Maintenance. Let our Indianapolis hardwood flooring experts put your mind at ease with these tips for getting the most from your hardwood floor.
Hardwood floor maintenance tip number one: Wipe up spills immediately
This may seem like a “no-brainer” but it really is one of the most important things you can do to keep your floor in good shape. Liquid is a prime enemy of wood floors so whether you spill a glass of water or track in wet footprints on a rainy day – wipe it up with a clean towel asap!
Hardwood floor maintenance tip number two: sweep it away
Tiny particles of dirt can cause big damage to a hardwood floor. Keep your broom or dust mop handy and be sure to sweep your floor at least once a week – more if it’s in a high traffic area.
Hardwood floor maintenance tip number three: take off your shoes
Water, mud, stones, dirt… all of these things are tracked in on the bottom of your shoes. Invest in a tray for your mudroom and/or a simple floor mat inside your entryway to encourage the habit of kicking off your shoes as soon as your enter the house. If it doesn’t get on your floor – it can’t cause any wear and tear! (Bonus – this habit helps all types of flooring in your home.)
