Fall trends in flooring
Published: September 19, 2013
The first day of fall is just around the corner. The change of season often inspires a desire to make changes of our own – new clothes, new hairstyle, new curtains, new flooring? As we turn the corner from the warm, balmy days of summer, let’s consider a few fall design trends:
- “Colorless designs” with an emphasis on natural patterns or textures.
- Adding a touch of shine with metal accents.
- Letting your personality show through your choices by displaying collections.
So how do these trends impact the floor? After all, not many of us can afford to put in a new floor each season just to stay up with trends. Let’s consider your floor as the base and the trends as your accents.
Light is where it’s at.
Whether you’re looking at hardwood, tile or carpet. Light colors are what’s in. They open a room. They don’t show dust or wear and tear as easily as a dark floor. If you’re in the market for a new floor, consider carpet or hardwood in a light color to serve as a versatile foundation for years to come.
Area rugs are a cost-effective way to change the look of a room.
Area rugs aren’t just for hallways or entryways. Whether your room has carpet, tile or hardwood – an area rug is an excellent way to add a new design element. They have the added benefit of helping break up a large room or creating a cozy nook out of a grouping of furniture. This fall, consider adding an area rug in the same color family as your floor but with an interesting pattern or texture.
Add some shine with tile.
Brass, copper, stainless steel or glass are very popular ways to add a new texture and shine to your design. These tile materials and many others are available as floor tiles or as creative a backsplash in your kitchen or bath.
